    Post New chipmunk owner

Just bought a pet chipmunck from a breeder, she seems scared and is hiding in her box all the time. She is only 6-8 weeks old. How do I begin the bonding and should I try to handle her even if she's resisting? Or just be patience and wait for her to get more comfortable? Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

I have never had a pet chipmunk but I would try food to get her to come out more and maybe try a bonding pouch when she is a sleep so she gets familiar with your smell and the sound of your voice... Maybe put a shirt with your sent on it in the cage with her to help her become familiar with your sent... These things work with flying squirrels but I am not sure about chipmunks I have rehabilitated chipmunks but never tried to keep one as a pet.. Hope this helps and good luck...

I did not know that chipmunks made good pets? If they are like squirrels, it is hit or miss (and many more misses than hits) on them being social and content to living inside, especially healthy ones. Is it legal to breed and sell them in SD?

The only chipmunks I have experience with are wild ones....
