Unhappy Injured squirrel found after storm

    Hello,

We had a bad storm yesterday morning, and I found a squirrel that appears to have been paralyzed. It can't move its back legs or tail, and doesn't appear to be in pain. It's an adult. I know very little about squirrels and just want to do what is best. At the moment, I have it in my bathtub with towels for bedding. It has pooped and peed, but hasn't eaten anything yet, and I've had it for almost a day. I got it to drink water out of a bottle when I found it, but it hasn't drank any since. I don't know what to do.

Hi! Thanks for caring and rescuing him.

In the short term, keep him in a warm, quiet and darkish place. Place some old tee shirts in with him so he can hide under them, that will make him feel safer. Please close the toilet lid, if he managed to get in there, he would drown. Water is good, also you could leave some unsalted nuts as a treat for him.

Some experts will be here shortly to help. The best bet may be to find a local rehabber who can try to care for this type of severe injury.

    Thanks again!

:good post Sometimes with paralysis issues, time is of the essence. If he can be started on Prednisone, sometimes partial or even complete recovery is possible but the sooner he is treated the better! An experienced rehabber can determine if the damage is temporary or permanent or get an x-ray to see what damage exists.

Looks like there are some rehabbers fairly close judging by the link that Mommaluvy posted.. I do not know any of them so I can not recommend one over the other. Maybe call a few and ask how they would deal/treat a squirrel with this condition?

Not sure where that is, but we have a member PeteyTime who's a licensed rehabber in Southern WI. Will that help you?
Perhaps if you reach out to him in a pm, he could hook you up with someone close by.
