Default How to tell the sex of a 1 month Indian Palm Squirrel and development of male genital

    Hi,
Hope you don't think this is too weird a question but I am wondering about male genital development in IPS. Why? I will tell you.

My girl squirrel, Durga, gave birth to 3 babies. They are over a month old, now, running around. I have decided not to touch them and let them be completely wild. But, since they are living in a house we made for them up on the wall in the porch room, I get to see them grow and run around. And take tons of pictures. I noticed something, in one of the pictures, under one of the squirrel babies, "Little Gray", as I call him, because he is all grey with 3 blackish stripes and a little tan on the part close to his legs, quite a different color than his siblings and most IPS. I noticed a ball sac, quite a big one. In fact. My 2 boys didn't get that big of a sac until the 3rd month or so and now, in their 9th month, it has completely matured. This little guy already has the sac of like a 3 month old, although proportionate to his size.
I am wondering if something is wrong here? My boys had tiny little testicals, looked like tiny flaps of skin, until around 3 months old when they finally filled out into 1 piece. But this little baby already has the torpedo shaped sac. Is this normal?

Since the other two babies don't have this, but little button wee-wees, I am not sure what they are either, m or f, because all my babies started the same. They had nothing but a button wee-wee and fur, as two of these do.

I have searched the internet and cannot find any pictures nor answers. I am hoping someone might know something. I am sure Little Gray is fine. But, it is me who is astonished and wondering!!

Of course, this all started as I was wondering what my female squirrel had, in way of boys and girls.

    Thank you…

HI! Can you post your pictures here on the Squirrel Board? The little "button wee-wees" are most likely girls.. The fellow with the "torpedo" is most likely a guy.(I love your descriptions!) It is possible that his sisters are sucking on his privates, causing some swelling and inflammation... It is something baby squirrels do frequently in captivity, although I don't know how often it happens in the wild.. (although yours are sort of a blend of wild and captivity, so who knows!) When our little rescue babies do this, we just separate them so they can't continue.. I"m not sure what you would do in your case- But there are way more experienced folks here who will undoubtedly come along with an opinion soon-
It may also be that he is just extra-endowed.. there have been a few discussions regarding that on the Squirrel Board lately..
I think posting some pictures of the little fella is your best bet for identifying the problem (if there is one..)..
