I'm still learning how to post on the forum. I wrote you back, but it was in the wrong place. Maryann

I never thought I would find people as good as TSB, and I have worked with dozens of churchs/temples.

I am going to pm you the name and number of a New Jersey rehabber.
She is fantastic, and if she can't personally help you, most likely she will
    know someone who can.
You know how to get pm's, right?

First off, thank you so much for helping this little one.
I do want to tell you, that if you take this squirrel to a vet, most likely they will euthanize.
You need to be licensed in the state for a vet to see wild life, and many many vets never even
    take in wildlife to help.
IF you are going to trap, you need a plan. You need a spot already set up in your home
that is warm, dark, and quiet. Have plenty of fleece or something without loops so the squirrel
can bury himself in. Get a heating pad and set it on LOW and put it half under the container that you
have him in. Have a blanket ready so you can cover the whole cage.
What you really need is someone that can be with you all day watching for this little peanut, and help
you trap, but I fear that won't happen.
Just make sure you have a plan and let me ask..........if you get him, would you be fearful of giving him
meds for the pain he may be feeling. If you would rather not try to dose him meds, then I won't tell you
to get infant ibuprophen. IF you think you would be willing to try, then pick some up, and we will cross that
bridge when we come to it, because they are dosed medicine by their weight. NOT to worry about that now though.
Do you have a 1 cc syringe? IF not ask your pharmacist if he has one without a needle.
Tell him it's for a little mouse you found, or a baby kitten, do NOT mention it's for a squirrel.

You need a plan, and you need someone that you can call immediately after getting him, if you trap.
Please do not trap without a plan, it could take days to figure it out and that would be stressful.

I am so happy I found this forum. I thought I was pretty much alone in the world of loving wildlife and animals, especially squirrels.
It is so nice of you to offer to help me out. My husband told me I can purchase one trap, but not more than that. He doesn't want me to spend a lot on traps, because he'll let me use our care credit card to put towards the vet bill. He would rather me focus our money on the vet.
We are limited in funds, because I have a daughter who is on the severe end of autism and she has a lot of medical expenses not paid by insurance.
Hopefully I can trap her, but I'm so nervous, it's hindering the process. I think the injured girl senses my fear and is freaking out when I approach. Or it could be her defensiveness. After all she knows she's in trouble and she's trying to survive.
I'm afraid the next time I see her. It's going to be much worse. The only good that may come of that, is it may slow her enough where I could get her. Though I'm afraid it could make it worse. It's instinct to see me as a predator and she'll kill herself trying to get away.
I apologize for rambling. I'm so worried and nervous.

Thank you once again. You're an Angel. Maryann Farrell

    Hi Maryann,

Please don't be nervous or upset with yourself. I think that when a person steps out on a limb to help another, there is a divine energy that comes to help that person. Go forth with that thought and you will do fine.

If there is an animal control center in your area you could check to see if they would loan or rent you a trap. Also anyone that does TNR with cats might also loan you a trap when they hear why you need one. You might be able to find that person from a veterinarian in your area. Just do not tell why you need the trap to anyone at a vets office. Tell them that you have feral cats that you want to TNR.

If you have to buy a trap and you can get this girl, I will come and get her if you need that and get her seen by a vet we use that knows that we are wildlife rehabilitators. Most vets will just euthanize injured adult wildlife so you have to be careful when using a vet in your area.

I am in Maryland so it would be about 3 - 3.5 hours to your area. Don't know if there are any members on the board that could help you with the trapping. Don't sell yourself short by saying that you can't do the trapping. The most important thing is that you care and after that you can do anything that you set your mind on.

Your little squirrel needs to be in a warm safe place to see if she can recover from her injuries. Sometimes all they need is safety and time. If she has a broken bone/pelvis, she really needs to rest, be warm and fed, and have some pain meds and possibly an antibiotic. If you want to talk to me in person, send me a PM and I will send you my ph #.

Have you seen the little one today?
Did you call the number I gave you? I really think this
is your best option in finding someone that could at least help
for the time being. This little squirrel comes so sporadically, this
will be difficult unless we find someone in your area to help out.
You can always do this yourself. It really is easier than you may think,
especially if you don't overthink it too much. Oh, and if the squirrel
    cooperates.

Let us know how things are going. I've been thinking about you.

Hi, I did see her. I named her Noel.

I was able to feed her by leaving food under a tree where she frequents, but she came no where near my house. I could see her from my window and then she ran off.

I'll keep trying to help her..

    Thanks for asking

Here is a 12 second video of little Noel.
It's difficult to see how she walks/runs, but
    any opinions are welcomed.

If you see her again, try zooming in to see if you
can get a clearer picture/video of her.

Just in case this link doesn't work for some, I also put
the video into a different site which may work.

I cant see clearly enough to say. She looks like she can move fairly quickly if she has to?

Hi, thank you. Yes I know how to get private messages, but I can't seem to get a video of the injured girl (Noel) up. It uploads, but never gets to post. I'll keep trying. Trysh got one video up for me thankfully. Thanks again, Maryann

I hope this sweet girl lets you catch her; keep trying to gain her trust, slow, careful, talk to her and tell her you are only trying to help. Even if she doesn't understand your words she will pick up on your energy. She is wary because she knows she is compromised, but hopefully she will realize you are only trying to help . She is so pretty and did look like she can move fairly quick if she needs to. Trysh is awesome; I can vouch for that too I will keep this sweet girl in my prayers, and I get those anti squirrel neighbors as I have them here too .

Hi, I'm sorry I'm taking so long to respond. So many people responded to my post. It's wonderful! I'm not afraid to medicate any animal as long as I don't have to sttggle and hold them down. I'm too afraid . When my bunnies get a G.I. Block, I pay the vet to give them their mess everyday then bring them home.
I don't know of any wildlife vets. My vet doesn't have a license for wildlife.

I'm waiting for my trap to et here from EBay. I ordered a 13x10x24 trap, one door. I didn't want to risk another squirrel entering at the same time by accident. They might kill each other. I have a laundry room that's heated, it's part of my house, but you need to step into my garage then laundry room. Nobody ever goes in my laundry room. lol! It's quiet, warm and very cozy.
I have actually been giving Noel calcium and pain meds. She has been here FOUR days in a row . That's a record for her. She is coming a little closer to my garage entrance where I place all the squirrels food, but I still have to toss her one walnut at a time. She's the only squirrel that actually likes wild bites and will eat them right away. The others eat them only when all other food is gone.
I give my rabbits ibuprofen sometimes for there blockages. It helps with the pain. So I cut the dose in half for Noel, because my rabbits are double her size. I give her 300mg of tums crushed up in a peanut paste I crush up . It's the only way she'll eat it. I hope I'm giving enough calcium to counteract the peanuts.

    Thank you, Maryann

    Hi Maryann,

Have you gotten the trap yet? When you do, put it out with the one door Latch open so it can not accidently close. Now you want to get Noel used to the trap sitting there. I usually camo mine with anything natural on the outside and with a very thin layer of leaves on the inside. Get her comfortable going inside to eat delicious nuts before you set it to trap.

Hope to hear from you soon,

    Trysh
