    Default Red Welt on Leg

    Hey Guys,
First post so sorry if I break any etiquette. My Eastern Grey rescue (7 weeks) has had a welt developing in his right rear leg. The vets weren't sure so I was hoping you guys would have some insight to what it is and possible treatments. I've included two pictures attached (hopefully correctly), the first taken on 9/12 and the second on 9/22.

Hmm - any opening to it like a botfly warble might leave?
Or puss / abbess possibly that needs to be lanced?

It looks like an abbess to me.

    I agree.

If this is a bot, it will rapidly grow larger (in just a couple days) and you will see a breathing and waste hole. You will also see movement.

Does he react if you touch it? Botfly's are not especially painful, an abscess usually is. Is it hotter than the surrounding skin? Infections are usually warmer.

You will know for certain in a few day if this is a bot as a hole will form.

Do you have any ABs on hand?

No visible holes or movement and it doesn't seem painful or itchy to him. It's hard to say if it's warmer since his whole body feels pretty warm. It feels like its fluid filled but it's not squishy enough for me to be certain. And to be clear this has been developing slowly for at least 3 weeks now. Also if you look further down his leg in the first picture there was another similar bump but it quickly faded. What's an ABs?

Antibiotics. I this it needs to be opened and flushed, with a round of ABs.

To me it's an obvious abscess and I'm befuddled as to why a vet wouldn't
    know what it was.
So let me ask you this...
What's this baby's story, how was he found?

I'll follow up as your recommended. He fell about 30ft from an oak tree when part of his nest collapsed. Two squirrels originally fell, about 3 days old at the time, in a highly populated area on campus on a walkway. They were getting cold but luckily this one had only a minor leg injury due to landing on part of the nest but the other was suffering serious internal bleeding and died within the hour. Sad but that's nature. I've made sure to tell everyone whose met it to never kidnap squirrel babies and actually reunited one earlier this week.
