Greetings fellow squirrel lovers,
I wanted to share an experience I had with my 2 kids. At about 8 weeks I decided that it might be a good idea to switch from Esbilac to Fox Valley for 4 weeks and over. I read so much about Esbilac warnings, and I thought that since the FV was for older babies it might be a better formula for them. They were starting to eat quite a bit of solid food, and I was noticing slightly soft stools.

Changing over was not a good idea. As soon as I did their stools went from just a bit soft to icky. All over the place. Their cage went from clean to a cesspool in half a day. At first I thought it might be too many treats (grapes, pumpkin seeds, and avocado). So I limited the solid food to just Henry's blocks and lettuce, celery, sweet potato, broccoli or cauliflower (offering limited amounts of only one or two veg at a time). I also tried feeding less formula (5% instead of 7%). Just kept getting worse. After about 4 days I figured it had to be the switch to FV. Yup. Instant improvement when I switched back to Esbilac.
They are at almost 10 weeks now, and their stool still gets a little soft from time to time, but I'm thinking that's because they are starting to wean and it is a tricky balance. But no more runs! Yeah!!!

Why the change was so hard I don't know. Maybe the ingredients are different enough that they couldn't adjust, or the transition should have been more gradual...I don't know, but I will finish their nursing as I started it - with Esbilac.
