Two of Eastern Grey squirrels I rehabbed and released early this summer have contracted Squirrel Pox. The male has such a severe case that 98% of his body surface area is effected. I brought him back in when I realized he was having trouble seeing; both eyes and one ear are now swollen shut. His sister seemed to have a milder case, so I left her outside but made sure she had plenty of fresh water and food, however I saw her this morning and her eyes are started to swell as well. She's understandably very skittish right now and refused to let me get near her so I'm attempting to tap her.

I'm currently treating Stuart with Baytril for secondary infection, erithromycin ophthalmic ointment twice a day, (however I'm not sure if any is actually getting into his eyes). and I'm giving him a high protein, high calorie diet, along with probiotics and adding a vitamin supplement to his water. To spite all this, I actually think the virus is continuing to replicate. At this point I don't know if Acyclovir will help, but I feel it may be his only hope. The cost of the Acyclovir suspension 200mg is over $100, and there is just no way I can come up with that right now. If anyone has some to spare I would be most grateful. I'd also welcome any advise to make my little guy more comfortable.
