Default Need Help With Food for Pet Southern Flying Squirrels

    Hi,

I have two pet Southern Flying Squirrels who are brothers. I am having issues with feeding them. I have used various food such as squirrel food from Exotic Nutrition, Cereal with dried Strawberries, and fresh vegetables. They will eat something for a very short time. They then just pull all of the food out of their feeder and throw it on the bottom of their cage. What else do I try giving them? They are wasting so much food.

I have 6 flying squirrels. All of them love henrys blocks. I give them a 1/2 block in the morning and a 1/2 block in the evening. Additionally, they will all eat to some degree mazuri rodent blocks and zupreme monkey biscuits. They do not seem to like them as well as the henrys but they do eat them.As far as vegetables go, I think Southerns are pickier than Northerns. I don't put giant bowls of vegetables in there or they will just pick out the stuff they want and leave the rest. I feed a small amount of fruits and vegetables trying for more group 1 vegetables. Also southerns can be nippy depending on the squirrel and also the time of year may be a factor but if you have all the same sex you might get lucky... one can never be sure. I give them a hazelnut once a week to give them something hard to chew on. They will also chew on fresh tree branches (make sure to use safe species)... I recommend not only consulting a list for squirrels but then doing your own additional research beyond there. My safe list is not as big as some of the things you'll find online.
