Default Is my baby a runt?

Hello, I have a baby squirrel who I took in August 1st as a newborn, maybe 12 hours old. He is now 25 days old (3 1/2 weeks old) but is only 40 grams. Tiny compared to my other squirrels. Now getting 2 mls of esbilac every 3 hours. Very active baby, no health issues besides 3 missing toes and a kinked tail. Thanks for any advice!

He is a tiny thing. You might want to add a little heavy cream to the formula to fatten him up. Those toes look fine. Are the toes missing from the same foot?

I would do it slowly. Don't want to give him diarrhea.

Liquid or powder Esbilac? You need the powdered puppy version with the blue probiotics stamp on it.

Fox Valley makes a high fat powder additive that can be added to the Esbilac called UltraBoost. It has extra fat, vitamins etc and could be slowly added to his esbilac.

Any brand of heavy cream in the dairy section or as Tube said UltraBoost but you would have to order that.

It the foot isn't badly mangled he should still be releasable. They are very adaptable. It probably won't slow him down a bit. You can evaluate his climbing ability as he grows. Just in case he isn't releaseable I would really snuggle and cuddle that boy to make him people friendly. That will be a tough assignment I'm sure.

Poor baby. I have a flyer missing 2 toes. It doesn't slow him down at all.

Give him time. He will probably adapt.
