Default Constipated 3 year old red squirrel

I have two three year old female red squirrels (small squirrels indigenous to Idaho mountains). They are sisters. Their diet consists of squirrel blocks with Henry's vitamins, red grapes, cucumbers, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and pine cone seeds. They have a water bottle. They have been healthy and active for years. For the last few days, one appears to be straining to defecate and cries pitifully in apparent discomfort. Her sister shows no symptoms and was always the biggest and strongest of the litter. I would appreciate any assistance to alleviate the condition. Thank you.

Welcome to TSB! I'm sorry your little one is having problems

You can give a bit of diluted apple juice to try to draw liquid into the gut and help things along. For the pain, do you happen to have infant ibuprofen?

You can also give some molasses or Karo syrup. Both have a laxative effect. As DL said, fluid and sugar is the best and safest way to help your little girl. Welcome to TSB!

I have a 1+ year old little girl and she gets constipated. Her diet is Teklad blocks acorns fruit and veggies, but mainly blocks. I noticed she has big feces for her size and she wines and doesn't want to go, you can tell she fights with it. So, do give the apple juice, molasses or Karo just as soon as you notice them doing it or give one daily because i don't always hear her?
