    Default Eating my condo

Have never had squirrels go after big upright beams holding up a large deck. Seemed cute when I noticed the first one hanging upside down and chewing around a knot in the wood. Checking now I realize that lots of damage has been done. Why would squirrels do this during warm months when food is plentiful and why now at this house - 18 years old and never been gnawed before?

Lindberg - more than likely they are sharpening their teeth - they MUST wear them down on a routine basis. They really go after our sprinkler heads - some have to be replaced every three weeks or so. We were amazed as to how much effort the little creatures put into it when they are sharpening their teeth. They grab the sprinkler head with their front paws / hands, lower their heads and really PUSH with their hind legs to wear those teeth down.
