Just dropped the squirrel off. Lovely place Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation has here, im glad we made the trip up.

They said pretty quickly they think it has “raccoon roundworm” spread via raccoon feces, as they did see his legs moving around. Seems like if true it would be permanent neurological damage and they would humanely euthanize unfortunately. Makes sense because we do have raccoons right around the area. Seems like it’s very common, they have had a lot of rodents with this recently.

We are headed home now, gonna stop for some food nearby on the way there. We will get updates via email and I will post here when we find out what happens to him. Thanks SSG! This has been a positive experience for me and my girlfriend.

You guys are doing God's work. I'm afraid that raccoon roundworms is a death sentence to the squirrels. Its a sad ending.

Please do post any additional information as I see this thread being followed by many. I'm glad that TSB was helpful and you both had a positive experience. TSB is an open board for anyone who is looking for squirrel help.

Suggest you wash all towels and blankets used for the squirrel when you get home as precaution.

Thank you. We did wash all of the fabrics we used with the squirrel on hot after spraying with flea killer. I have still not gotten any updates from Greenwood Wildlife Rehab about what happened to the squirrel, I will update here when I do, but I currently assume that they got euthanized. I'm glad we were able to give the squirrel a comfortable last 24 hours

Suspect you are right. Sad but it's really for the best as there is no cure.

Thank you for giving squirrel a warm safe resting place in the final hours. My sincere appreciation to Greenwood Wildlife Center for accepting the squirrel so quickly and doing the diagnosis.

As I said before, you guys are part of the 1% who take action to help animals. Thank you very much! Be on the lookout for some token of good luck from the Squirrel Gods for helping one of their own.

Wish the outcome was different but this is wildlife in nature.
