    Default Baby Flying Squirrel Help!!

I have recently started taking care of a baby southern flying squirrel that my cat alerted us to in the early evening. Baby was cold and very tiny. We were able to get him warmed up and eating. It's now been 2 weeks since we found him. When we found him he weighed only 15 grams, eyes still closed with lower teeth. Pics are from the day we found him.

I am feeding him a specialty formula by exotic nutrition that a friend got me. Every 2 hours he eats about 1.03 ml and I've been giving him a hydration solution every 30 minutes to keep him hydrated since he spends a lot of time in his nest(a reptile hide shaped like a stump with a hole) which is heated by a heating pad under the tank.

He is peeing/pooping on his own. Eyes are open and he weighs 21 grams after 2 weeks. I am concerned he isn't gaining weight like he should be as he is still very tiny. Despite his small size when he is awake he is very alert and mobile even if he is still a bit wobbly and clumsy while exploring.

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

    What a little doll ❤️
What's the exact formula you are feeding?
I really know little about flyers only what I read on this board.
I'm hoping to bump your thread so others with flyer experience can help.

Stop giving hydrating solution immediately. It is meant to be given for no more than 24 hours. If you feel the baby needs additional hydration, use plain water or water with a pinch of sugar in it.

I am almost sure I am not going to like the formula. I have been really disappointed by Exotic Nutrition in the past.

I would order a bag of Fox Valley 20/50: https://henryspets.com/collections/f...50523685912881

This pace also sells syringes and nipples and pretty much everything you need.

While there I would get that baby some blocks: https://henryspets.com/collections/squirrel-blocks My flying squirrel, who I lost this year at almost 12, LOVED the Hazelnut ones.

I always added things to his formula as a baby. He got the powdered formula, to which I added full fat yogurt (Stoneyfield's yobaby is yummy and very good for this) and heavy cream to.

Once I can get info on the formula you have I can suggest ways to add these things in safely. They need a richer formula than the bigger tree squirrels do.

The hydration solution I am using it just water and a little sugar and calcium.

For the food, I am using Exotic nutrition specialty formula that's supposed to be for squirrels, opposum raccoons and such. I plan on getting fox valley as soon as I can afford to along with the Henry's blocks. picture below of what my friend got me

He was a wild baby, is there anything I can gather from the wild in terms of solid foods?

I've also got the yogurt that I added to his formula when we first started feeding him to help with diarrhea. Now he is pooping more solid and peeing well.

I forgot to mention in my last post that even though he is pooping it's not after every feed and he seems to struggle to do so. When he does he's a darker color and like tooth paste.

I also have questions about feeding schedule. Right now he is getting fed formula every 2 hours and giving him water in between feeds if he will take it and he usually does. He still spends most of his time sleeping only getting up and exploring when I wake him up to get him ready to eat/drink. He spends about 10 minutes exploring his cage. Should he be more active by know or is it still normal for a baby his size?

I've also included pictures taken today to show growth progress. The battery is a AAA for size comparison.

I am so sorry that you lost Icarus. It should be noted that Exotic Nutrition formula is NOT recommended for feeding orphaned squirrels of any type. It’s imperative to only trust formula formulations that have a history of meeting the nutritional needs of babies. Exotic Nutrition is NOT one of those companies.
