I give waxworms to the squirrels as treats sometimes and I also feed them to my other animals. While low in Ca and high in fat, I find they make a nice treat. To breed them I used a mix of wheat bran and organic honey mixed until moist and put them in a canning jar with paper towel where the metal middle piece used to be. The waxworms that turn brown (not black, those are no good) are placed into the jar and I put it in a closet. Since we don't use air conditioning most of the time, the ctop of the closet with the attic access gets around 90f during the day. The moths eventually hatch and lay eggs on wax paper. The period from the time the moths hatch until the worms are noticable is longer than from the time I can see the worms until they are big because they seem to grow rapidly at that stage.![]()
