From what I've learned, so long as your hibiscus is not the Hardy variety the buds are perfectly safe to feed to your squirrel or yourself. The Hardy hibiscus, on the other hand, can cause digestive upset.

You may not even know about "hearty" hibiscus where you live. There are species that can be grown in cold climates. Get us a pic of your hibiscus (preferably with a flower) and we can help.
