Need advice/help!!!
Hi, we found a very dehydrated baby squirrel last week. We started with clear pedialyte. Then got him to take powdered goat milk that we had water and mix. He was doing sooo good. He perked up great. He was peeing and pooping, but then I did notice a few days later that his little butt looked swollen like he might be constipated. I would gently massage with a warm paper towel to help him use the bathroom. Still he acted fine. He was jumping on the side of his aquarium last night wanting out. However today, he was very lethargic. He would hardly eat or move. It was almost like he couldn’t hold himself up at times. My husband said he pooped an excessive amount tho. He’s little booty isn’t swollen anymore. It looks normal now, but he’s not acting normal. I hear no clicking. I’ve been listening closely for that. I’m so sad. He’s the cutest little guy and I want to help him overcome whatever this is. Our kids think he’s the greatest little thing.
Here is what I have done so far since I got home today.
-wrapped him in a soft blanket next to a heating pad
-offered pedialyte (he’s not very interested)
-crushed up a tums and added warm water. He came alive and went into a feeding frenzy, grabbing the syringe and trying to get as much as he can. He had nearly 9ml. Then he curled up and went back to sleep. He looks marginally better. Still not great by no means. His little eyes just look a little listless.
- I waited an hour and half and offered him formula. He wanted no part of it. So I gave him the tiny bit left of the tums and water and he came alive again, only to lay back down and look pitiful
Advice is greatly appreciated
We are going to order a kit from Henry’s website, but I’m just worried he won’t make it.
