    Default Need help Dosing

Hi,,, I've been nursing 4 newborns for a few weeks now. Eyes just opened this week, healthy and growing rapidly, but now have some clicking in a couple of them. (2boys 2girls) I was able to get a box of clavox yesterday from a vet, but now need appropriate dosing instructions please

    to TSB!

In order to dose we'll need the strength of the Clavamox (is it in liquid form or does it require the water to be added to the powder still?). The weight of the squirrels needing the meds is also needed.

Can you share all the symptoms? All babies will click intermittently, most often after feeding and their mouths are wet / moist. This is a "mouth click". An Aspiration Pneumonia (AP) click is typically persistent / constant and originates in their chest / lungs... it is difficult to know the difference without some experience. But the AP click is usually like hic-cups: They cannot not click.

Other symptoms include a loss of appetite and lethargy. The lethargy / sleepiness is hard to see in little ones that mostly sleep anyways, but a loss of appetite is a red flag for AP.

If you not seen this 6 page primer on baby squirrel care, you may find it very helpful and informative:

A couple issues here... 9grams and 10grams is smaller than newborn greys.

The strength of the drug is incomplete... what is the strength of the amoxicillin (which will be in addition tot he the strength of the clavulanate potassium 15mg). And we need to know if this is a pill (capsule tablet) or a liquid?

I am not familiar nor can I find any sort of combination of "amoxicillin 50mg and clavulanate potassium 15mg".

The animal version ("Clavamox") is standardized as to amoxicillin/clavulnate ratios, not so for the human version (Augmentin).

Maybe posting a picture of what you have will help to expedite getting the babies the medications needed? We really need to know if this is a liquid, and if so the concentration, or if this is a pill... so that a suspension can be properly compounded.
