    Default found an injured squirrel

Hi there - I'm posting here to find some help for an injured squirrel in Juniper Park in Middle Village, Queens. Was sledding with my kids earlier and we saw a family's dog attack a mature squirrel, they left it bleeding and injured. We didn't have a box to put it in, so found a Fresh Direct bag and put it (it was breathing and shivering) in the bag, and tucked the bag into a protected area of rolled up fencing to keep out of danger from pets and the elements. It is located behind the baseball diamond dugout fence near the intersection of 77th st. and Juniper Boulevard, about 100 feet from the road. Please let me know if anyone can help! I've contacted 3 local rehabilitators and have not heard back from anyone. Thank you! Jay

    Hi Jay,

You are kind to have rescued this little guy. He won't survive out there he needs to be brought inside, warmed up first, and then given water and then food. Be careful - even compromised, he will bite you out of fear. Depending on how badly injured he is, the kindest thing you might do for him is to take him to animal control or a vet to be euthanized. If you can post pictures with the external injuries showing, we will have a better idea of what his condition is.

It takes a special person to do what you have done. We'll work with you to see where'd how to go from here. We look forward to hearing from you.
