Default How to strengthen squirrel limbs for it to climb heights.

Hey, so I have a 10 months old Indian palm squirrel and it has been very healthy from the start but lately during winter..she is not able to climb up her favourite curtains..they are not slippery or anything but she can't seem to climb easily. She would just slide down as she tries to climb up, so from few days we were helping her to climb up. I'm not able to understand what's happening because even her limbs and bones are perfectly fine and don't have any kind of injury also, I'm thinking maybe it's because of lack of proper nutrition or something that she is getting weak during winter or is it normal in these times? Can anyone help with what I should do for my baby or to what to feed her to get her more healthy and strong?

Can you tell us about her diet? What does she eat on a daily basis?

I am concerned this is Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD). This is caused by a diet too high in phosphorus and too low in calcium. Treating this will require a calcium source that does not have vitamin D added to it. It may be a human supplement or you can even resort to grinding up eggshells to "make your own." Tell us about the diet from what you used to nurse as a baby and on to where she is now. And in case I am right, begin looking for calcium sources that match my description.

    Pedikas,

While humor, under appropriate circumstances, is to be appreciated and enjoyed, making light of a request for help is counterproductive. The original poster might conclude that we don't take things seriously. A potentially serious or even deadly situation might carry through to its end without intervention. Your currency in the community is diminished. Our community is diminished. Most importantly, an innocent animal might be harmed - or die when it could have been saved. We are here to prevent that.

By your language, one might surmise that you are quite young. That you are here in the first place tends to speak to your concern for wild animals. Terrific on both counts. I am glad that you are here. Speaking for myself and no other, I ask that you look around and notice that we have a section for off-topic conversations. Perhaps you might post your more light-hearted comments there. In the meantime, please remember that people who come here for help are often panicked; or, have unwittingly and with the best of intentions created dangerous conditions for the animal in their care. Put yourself in either position and consider how seriously you would want the people who can help you to take your situation. If you are as bright as you appear to be, you will immediately understand.

    Take good care!

When she was a baby we used to feed her cow's milk..I heard it's not very recommended for a squirrel but from the place I am it's the only easily available drink for her..we didn't feed her anything harsh because she was still learning to chew that time... Gradually we started feeding her seasonal fruits, nuts and vegetables like.. carrots, ivy gourd, cucumber, apples, green grapes, banana, watermelon, orange, raw spinach leaves sometimes.. boiled pulses for protein, cashews, dates, walnuts and peanuts and cooked rice in very small amount. This is all her diet as for now, we tried feeding her boiled egg but she didn't like it. But if I'm wrong please correct me in what should I properly feed her. She is 10 months old now.

    Thank you.

The diet is almost certainly the problem. Go to henrys pets.com as shown in the post above. Read about the food pyramid and switch to it immediately. In addition, you MUST get calcium into the animal right away. Right now, there is suffering. Without these two things, death is around the corner.

No worries - To be clear, this was meant for Pedikas, who answered your request for help with nonsense. You've done nothing wrong.
