Default Beauty at the Northwoods Wildlife Center

This baby is the 4th quarter cover critter for the Northwoods Wildlife Center here in Northern Wisconsin. Our area is blanketed in squirrels through each season of the year. Some are ordinary looking, some are good looking, and some are startlingly beautiful. This squirrel surely belongs in that last category. The symmetry of the face is detailed and precise, the coloring is exquisite, and the languid expression is as sweet as it can be. Sometimes you have to look pretty carefully to see the beauty that surrounds us all the time. Sometimes all you need to do is blink to find it staring right back at you.

This squirrel is being overwintered at the sanctuary and will be returned to the wild as soon as it is ready and conditions are right.

It is good to be friends with squirrels.

    Hi TF,

Just beautiful. Forget over-wintering in cold Wisconsin - should be HERE for a warm winter! (if only that was possible)

Thanks for the picture. What does 4th quarter cover mean ?? (a magazine or promo flyer ??)

The Center publishes a magazine/newsletter 4 times each year - every 3 months. They're mailed out to supporters at the end of every three months or the end of each quarter-year. Each edition features one of the critters they have taken in for rehabilitation. A "glamor shot" of the critter graces the cover of that edition. Hence, "cover critter."

Glad you enjoyed seeing this beautiful creature.

Just went to their website and looked around. Quite impressive! Wish there was a place nearby here like theirs.

    Thanks for supporting them!

What a beautiful creature to see in the dark hours of the morning. Brightened my day already. Thanks so much for sharing him, Jamie.

Thanks for posting, definitely a beautiful little one. The day is always brighter for seeing at least one wild in winter fur scamper across the leaves.
