    Default Is this squirrel pox?

Our ecuadorian squirrel is a 3 years old rescue - we recently discovered this lump on her inner thigh last Friday. It's like a skin wart, does not have a growth under the skin, but bled slightly after inspection. Local vet started her on an antibiotic cream 2x a day for a week (apply for 15 mins then remove) but it has not changed in appearance. Should the cream not show improvements, vet recommended a biopsy for lab tests.

I'd like to enquire this forums vast collective knowledge - do you know what this could be? Squirrel pox is one of my worries?

PS: I want to thank this forum for saving our squirrel from MBD a year ago. She got better so quickly with the advice found on this forum.

I'm really not sure what that is but I doubt pox because she's an indoor squirrel.

I agree with CC, that doesn't look like pox to me either. But just in case check the other areas of her groin and also under armpits and on her toes because that is where pox starts. Does she fuss with it at all? The inflammation worries me, yet the antibiotic didn't help. Since you have a vet who's actually willing to treat her, you're 10 steps ahead of most people to begin with, so I would go with his offer to biopsy if the thing keeps resisting antibiotics.

We love our vet. He's worked with many wild animals and is extremely talented at handling the unwieldy critters. Unfortunately the knowledge in this forum is often more specific, and he didn't know to diagnose and treat the MBD correctly - thankfully this forum did provide excellent info regarding that!
The combination of our vets skill with the knowledge on this forum is a lifesaving combo for our little "Sunshine".

We will complete the treatment with the antibiotic (1 or 2 more days) then move forward with the biopsy. It doesn't seem to be getting worse, but also not better. Will be on the lookout for more lumps.

Does not look like Pox IMHO. If it has been there a full week (or more since you only noticed it a week ago) and there are no other lesions/marks on her then it probably is not pox. Biopsy is your best bet if it does not resolve with the AB.
