    Default Rehab in VA

Hey all, we moved to VA in August. I have 3 sibling squirrels (born in March). I had planned on releasing them in the spring of next year so they would have plenty of opportunities for resources. However, it was brought to my attention last night that my neighbor is “getting fed up” with my squirrels. She’s never had an issue with them before and loved them. I’ve heard stories of how petty she can be, and I’m nervous she may get them taken away. She’s been blaming them for a $500 vet bill she has for her cats having fleas and for her new $80 shoes having a hole in them. My squirrels don’t have fleas and there’s no hole in her shoes. These issues were never mentioned to me until last night. My other neighbor told me and said this has been her thoughts for a few weeks. On top of that, she may be getting fired soon (by the neighbor who told me), because my other neighbor is her boss at work. I’m sure that won’t sit well with her.

A family member told me to take them to The Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro. Would anyone have any recommendations or be willing to take over their release? It hurts me to do this, but I only want what’s best for them and for them to released properly instead of taken because of a petty neighbor. I thought about the wildlife center, but I wanted to explore other options here. Also, I’m sure I would get in legal trouble if I gave them to the wildlife center. They have been with me since they were 30g. I didn’t know at the time but bringing them with me to VA is against VA law without a permit.

I’m not sure where you’re located but reach out to a licensed rehabber located in VA who’s a TSB member. She may have other resources if she can’t help you. Her name is Pat 804-629-7927.
