Default Dose conversion/ mixing for UTI

I have just joined this forum. I have been rescuing baby squirrels for 50 years on my own property. I just found out that I should not be doing this without a license . Well, here I am with 3 babies again. 2 girls and a boy. I had to separate the boy because they suck his penis. Everything was super swollen. I soaked him in warm water, triple antibiotic and
He seemed fine but the last few days, his pee smells so bad and only Comes out a drop at a time.
I have amoxi clav 875pills. I was wondering how I can use them to treat his uti? He weighs 87 grams
I love these little ones and want them to thrive in the wildlife.
    Thanks for all your help

Hi Pennyridingwhitehorse and welcome to The Squirrel Board! Many of us are not Licensed and TSB is a place where we can receive and provide help and further our knowledge about Squirrels and their care while remaining under the radar! so don't worry!

You sent me a PM before you made this post and I suggested that you present the issue on the Open Board and permit others to comment and make suggestions and thanks for doing so! Any mixing and dosing instructions should be done via Private Messaging however.

Just a a verification please because in your initial PM to me this evening stated that you had 500mg tablets. Please clarify, are they 875/125 or 500/125? Also, do feel comfortable breaking a tablet accurately in half at the score line?
    Regards,
    SamtheSquirrel

    Hi Pennyridingwhitehorse:
I'm at work and must leave TSB for a bit to address some issues. Others are here and I subscribed to your Thread so I will get a notification when you respond to my two questions and I (or one of our other members) will get back with your with dosing as soon as possible. Please also verify that the weight of 87 Grams is a current weight taken with a digital scale. Also, just for possible options, do you have any other antibiotics available? Amoxicillin plus Clavulanate is ordinarily fine for treating a UTI however.
    Thanks,
    SamtheSquirrel

Oh my gosh… I couldn’t find out how to reply to the post! I didn’t realize I was no longer signed in!
Yes- my daughter said the pill was 500 but when I looked up the pill it’s actually 875.
The squirrel weighs 87 grams on a digital scale ; I checked yesterday. He is eating fine but I can tell he is getting grouchy.
    Thank you very much!

    Hi Pennyridingwhitehorse:
Sorry for my delay! I have had a very busy night at work and while I waited for awhile after you left, I just could not break away from work responsibilities to respond when you returned to TSB! Sorry!
Please answer these 3 questions now (I will be standing by--well sitting by!) if you can and then I will formulate mixing and dosing instructions for you!
    1) do you feel comfortable accurately breaking the 875mg tablet in half at the score line?
    2) do you have any other antibiotics available and if so, what are they?
    3) what is the name of your Squirrel?
    Regards,
    SamtheSquirrel

    Hello again Pennyridingwhitehorse:
As I must again return to my work responsibilities, I am going to send my detailed dosing instructions to you Private Message (PM). They are based upon you accurately breaking the 875mg Tablet in half and using only one half tablet. If you prefer to or need to use the whole tablet, you will need to double that amount of water in my calculations to get the same concentration of antibiotic and then you will be able to use the same dosing protocol. If you have any questions about this please send a PM to me!
    Regards,
    SamtheSquirrel
