    Question Hello

Hello. A friend found a 2 week old baby squirrel. Or we think two weeks. He has had him a week. He has small clicking only sometimes when he breaths. Roger says he has 500mg amox capsule and needs to know dosage just in case. I had him weigh the little one and his baby weighs 39g. He has no idea how many grams when he found him. Pooping, peeing, eating normally. Is there a place to find out how much he should weigh and how much meds he would need if the clicking becomes worse?

how is the baby being fed ??

How long has this clicking been going on ?? This is sign of aspiration pneumonia A/P.

Amox is good but the is better antibiotics like Augmentin or Cipro. Ask family, friends, anybody.

Did you friend contact a local rehabber to take over ??

    No he has not.

I believe 3ml syringe that came with the miracle nipple. He only has 500 Amox and has asked around.

It is not a continuous click. I've listened to him breath. I can count over 40 breaths and no clicks but after he eats/tries to get comfortable there Is a few clicks.

Hello, this sounds like another TSB member that popped up recently. Is this same squirrel baby ??

If yes, its best to continue one thread.

A what? I haven't ever posted about any squirrel ever... I am trying to help someone with this baby squirrel. Where do I go if I can't get help here on antibiotics dosage for him or other advice?

Sorry to mix you up with another. For aspiration pneumonia, amox-clav or cipro is best. Any chance of getting one of these AB ??

I don't think so. He's not even 100% sure it is a/p pneumonia. He doesn't click non stop just when moving around finding a comfy spot or right after eating.

He is looking for a just in case it turns into. AMOX 500 is what he has on hand no one else has the others. Is there anywhere here I can find the dosage for him for it?

If this baby is eating normally, and the clicking is only present occasionally, it doesn't sound like aspiration pneumonia to me. The smack their lips and make all kinds of "mouth noises" at that age.

Aspiration pneumonia shows up as first, lethargy and then refusal to eat. After that, the clicking comes and it is with every breath. If this guy is eating enthusiastically, I would watch him closely for the lethargy/food refusal, hold off on the meds, and get a 1cc syringe and throw that 3cc as far as possible.

  10. Serious fuzzy thank you's to CritterMom from:

I'll go get one now. He is eating between 2cc to 3cc every two hours. Is that okay? He's not lethargic at all. Very squirmy very vocal when he moves around. Peeing pooping just fine. He ordered Fox Valley formula that comes in Thursday. He's been doing Pet Ag Puppy Formula for the last week

That all sounds good. Do yourself a favor - when you get the Fox Valley, Mix up a batch of each formula and then combine them in a separate container so you can gradually introduce the FV. I would do 75% old formula and 25% FV for a day, then 50%/50% for a day, then 25% old and 75% new, and then straight FV. Bear in mind many people find that blending them 50/50 forever is a better choice for their specific squirrel. The FV is a more robust formula and digests more slowly so watch to make sure baby has digested the last meal before you give another. You will likely want to spread the feedings out a bit more then.

One more question...He has had normal poops until tonight. He had a bit of runny poops. Is there anything we can do for him to help? He was mixing pet ag with a tiny bit of heavy cream for fat.

Amoxi is little harsh on the digestive system. Try giving some probiotics a few hours after dosing.

Leave the cream out. You need to watch him for this. We do NOT recommend Pet Ag's Petlac for squirrels. Their product Esbilac is the preferred formula. I have seen many squirrels on here with loose stools and diarrhea from the Petlac. When does your Fox Valley arrive?
