Mosquito,Tick,Flea

Hello,

I just moved down south and I am quickly realizing how bad Mosquitoes and ticks can be compared to where I lived in the west. I am a bit concerned about my squirrel as I'm not sure if there is any sort of repellant I can use on or around her. I read that garlic is something that can be used but I'm not sure if its a spray, pill, or topical and if there is something better or more effective or if garlic is safe. I have planted lavender, Rosemary and a few other supposedly mosquito repelling plants about 6 feet from her cage as a cautionary measure and have set up a few bug zappers around the house. Her cage is away from trees and bushes and I keep the grass around her cage short to help deter ticks but not sure how to keep the mosquitoes and their viruses away other than plants and zappers. If anyone has any suggestions on anything I can use I would greatly appreciate it!

The mosquitos will be the most difficult I think.

The only thing I can think of that would allow you to keep a squirrel outside would be to dose her once a month with Revolution. It kills ticks and fleas plus a number of other parasites and is well tolerated. It is prescription only but can be purchased here: https://www.canadavetexpress.com/rev...k-pack-45.aspx

You would NOT be using a whole vial to dose each month so it will last a lot longer. Depending on her size it would be only 1-3 drops on the back of her neck.

The only thing I can think of for the mosquitos would be to get mosquito screening (for windows) and install it on the outside of the cage where her nails don't get to it so much.

I assume I would get the puppy/Kitten or would it be the very small dog option?

I have seen others on the internet specifically for rodents not sure if those work and when you say well tolerated, are they safe to use without side effects?

We use the puppy/kitten in the pink box. The vials have a cap with a pin inside - you push it down and it pierces the top of the vial. Since you would be using only a couple drops, after you apply it, replace the cap and push it down like you did to open it. That seals the hole. Then, make sure you keep it upright. I tape them to the inside of my refrigerator door with that blue painting tape! Doing that will keep it from leaking or evaporating.

there were quite a few sprays available but I'm not sure I want to spay her and I'm a little skeptical if they work as good as topicals

Sprays never will. The topicals normally last a long time - in the case of Revolution, it works for 30 days. That means that any eggs laid will hatch and die. With sprays, that doesn't happen and you have to retreat multiple times.

Thank you for the information I ordered some revolution today as well as put some bug screen on her cage.
