Hi! I have a male grey that is less than a year. He is 468g/16.4 oz. He seems better today than yesterday, when the bite occurred, but is acting a little sluggish this evening. I'm certain he is in pain, but I have noticed that there is now some swelling not present earlier. I have 250mg capsules of amoxicillin and 250mg cephalexin. If there is something better than ceph, to combine with amoxicillin, then tell me. I may have it!
I run a cat rescue, so I'm well-versed on mixing my own antibiotics, but I'm new to treating rodents. He is 100% manageable and really just wants mama, so I can make him take what he needs.
It apears to be one puncture or possible close punctures, with mainly superficial wounds around it. However, as a frequent flyer to the ER, I know cat bites can infect instantaneously, so I was hoping he got lucky!
Also, I have Bacitracin for the exterior of the wound. I know cats cannot safely ingest some of the ingredients in standard triple antibiotic ointment, so I didn't want to risk the squirrel ingesting it. Also, he has a name and it is Mateo.
-I just took pics but I'm on my Mac and they aren't in my cloud yet.
