    Hello Chamara,

AP is serious and needs immediate attention. Please describe your squirrels physical activity, ie, normal jumping around or now staying still and/or moving slowly ?? (being lethargic - slugish movement)

Do you hear clicking all the time ?? How long has this condition been going on ??

I took him to a vet immediately
    S/C endofloxacin also given
But she passed away at the vet hospital
I'm in doubt that he got anaphylaxis

    Hi Chamara:
I'm so sorry for the loss of your little Squirrel! Thank you for loving him and caring for him!

    To help others here on The Squirrel Board, would you be willing to answer a few question? If so;
    1) how old was your Squirrel?
    2) Did your Squirrel have any medical problems or medical issues before the "clicking" began?
    3) Did you Little One exhibit any other abnormal signs except for the "clicking" such as decreased activity or appetite, nasal congestion or drainage?
    4) would you please describe the "clicking" you heard you heard and where it seemed that this clicking originated (from the chest, the nose, the mouth or wherever)?
    5) I saw where you "doubt he got anaphylaxis." Did the Vet say that your Squirrel died from anaphylaxis? In case you may not know, anaphylaxis is an acute systemic allergic reaction that can result in death. It usually occur relative soon after the triggering event (in this case, it would seem to be the injection of enrofloxacin) but the symptoms and signs of anaphylaxis can actually begin to develop minutes to hours after the triggering even but once they develop, progression is usually quite rapid! Did your Squirrel seem to be any distress or have difficulty breathing or have any swelling after the injection of enrofloxacin or did he just suddenly pass away?

Again, I am so sorry for the loss of your baby Squirrel! I wish Peace for you, Chamara!

    RIP little baby Squirrel!

    Regards,
    SamtheSquirrel

They had open eyes and had fur all over the body and tail was also a little fluffy so i guess they could be 6 to 7 weeks old but the vet said she seeems 5 weeks
She didn't show any physical signs previously her sibling passed away a day before her and i found him soaked all over the body
She developed clicking yesterday morning after the morning feed even during the feed i stimulated her and she passed about 10-15 drops of urine and passed stool also after the feed she suddenly got this clicking with inspiration i guess

At the VET hospital when i open the container she peeped out the fabric i put for bedding and moved here and there a with a little bit slow movements but after about 3 to 5 minutes from the s/c endofloxacin she started jumping around and developed fits and started laboured mouth breathing and passed away within next 5mins thats why i suspected anaphylaxis
They didn't mentioned about anaphylaxis i did guess it with what i observed ( I'm a MBBS graduate but this is the frist time i raised a squirrel or any wild animal so i dont know about their physiology i just correlated with what i have observed with patients with anaphylaxis)

Thank you Chamara and thank you for your care of, and love for, your baby Squirrels! RIP Little Squirrels!

Being an MBBS graduate, obviously you understand the phenomenon of anaphylaxis. Many mammals have high degrees of similarity in physiology and anatomy to humans and with a basis in human medicine; the comparison of animals is usually in regard to humans but in Veterinary Medicine or in Rehabbing, the comparison is often in regard to what comprises a nebulous concept of "mammalian physiology and anatomy" and a Squirrel's physiology and anatomy have many commonalities to other mammals and to humans as well! A Squirrel is certainly capable of mounting an Anaphylactic reaction although I have fortunately not witnessed such an event. Dosing of Enrofloxacin can cause seizures and without doubt, anaphylaxis as well. 3-5 minutes is a relatively short time for either adverse reaction to occur but at least as far as anaphylaxis goes, certainly not impossible and it may very well be that either or both adverse effect may actually be what occurred. Another possibility for such a "sudden" event might be an inadvertent IV dosing of at least some of the Enrofloxacin when the Sub-Q dosing was attempted or possibly an excessive dose of the Enrofloxacin.

We will never know of course and once again I thank you for your love of these baby Squirrels!
    Regards,
    SamtheSquirrel
