8yr old just diagnosed diabetic squirrel

Hello,
Need help advice with my 8year old grey squirrel. He is pu/pd wanting to drink own urine, never done before. I am a vet tech for 16 years and have owned a diabetic cat so I know all about bg curves. I did a urine strip and positive for glucose, I did a free catch urinalysis no bacteria are that time. Way me is my angel because I don't so anything he doesn't like and drawing blood falls into that category. I probably would be able to give him insulin and monitor with urine strip and his behavior only. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

One of my pet squirrels developed type 2 diabetes later in his life. He was put on Glipizide (which helped tremendously) and the other thing we did was reduce his food intake (did not take away and of his fruits or sugary foods, just cut back on the amounts given). As soon as he lost weight his diabetes got under control and he was as free as he could be of the diabetes considering it never goes away completely.
