    Default Post odontoma surgery

Miracle had an upper incisor removed on the 21st by Dr. Emerson. She has been doing good, I am a little concerned about her behavior today. She has just wanted to crawl inside my shirt and sleep all day. Yesterday she was trying to be active, even though she was confined in her smaller cage. She doesn't appear to have any breathing issues and I am pretty sure she is not in pain. I have been giving her all her medicines as prescribed. She is taking a pain medicine and I am hoping it is just making her a little sedated. She is eating and drinking good also. Just hoping someone that has been through the surgery with their squirrel could chime in. She has a recheck tomorrow to see if they can close the stent. They are closed today and I didn't want to call the emergency number if I am just being a worry wart.

Is anyone available that has a squirrel that had surgery for an odontoma. She is making a lot of noise when she is breathing, she doesn't seem to be breathing faster. Is this normal with the stent?

Yes my Conkers went through odatoma surgery, and I've worked with many others that had the surgery.
Are you still flushing the port to keep it open with the drops? I kept using them even after the port was removed until hole was completely grown back.
Also sometimes you'll her whistling from the port.
It's normal they want to sleep it takes a lot out of them. Also usually not very hungry I gave Conker fox valley and soft foods like avocado, applesauce unsweetened yogurt. You can steam carrots, squash as well.

I also used benebac probiotic, 2 hours before antibiotics or 2 hours after.

Thank you for answering me I was feeling so alone. We left at 7 this morning to get back to Dr. Emerson's to get her recheck. I just got the call from Dr. Emerson's office that she is doing OK and the reason that she might've been so tired was the stent was clogged. They got it cleaned out and they took the stent out and put a stitch in its place. They want to see her again in 8 weeks. I am just so happy, I started crying on the phone when they told me that she was doing OK I was so worried about her. I have been flushing and putting in the Cipro and giving her all her medicines. Last night we went in the bathroom and turned on the hot shower 3 times to help with her congestion.

I use FV 20/50 I get from Healthy Henry's Pets, which is on Amazon, or from the HHP web site.
I also get benebac from Amazon 👍

My Doodles had surgery at Dr. Emerson’s office two years ago; she removed three incisors and one Odontoma. It took a good while for her to recover but it was so worth it. Her stent also seemed to clog quickly. I hated the aftercare as much as she did I’m sure. Seems like I used a q tip to gently wipe/pull the goo out after flushing. As the days go by it should start to close. It should be a healthy pink color as the edges heal and the “wet” sound and “goo” produced should be gone before it seals shut. Seems like it was about 7 days for Doodles , I’d have to look back at my own posts. It was very rough but CC and others here kept us calm

Doodles now eats only soft things , and in very small pieces. I have to hand feed her because she is a neuro. She should be able to chew with her other (back) teeth but my girl head tosses and throws out anything that she senses she can’t chew well. It will take time to get used to eating again. Boo balls are about the only thing my girl feels comfortable chewing and swallowing.

She is still just wanting to sleep, but she does look like she feels better. She slept in my shirt last night, she is in her cage curled up sleeping right now. She doesn't look like she is in any pain, just really tired. Thank you this whole thing has been so scary and we have to do it again in 8 weeks for the other odontoma.

I'm sure we would all be sleepy after that kind of surgery.
    Squirrels are very resilient 👍
    Prayers to you both🙏🙏

Miracle is being more active and starting to be her old self again. Her incision is almost completely closed from where the stent was. She does still have a whistling noise sometimes and sneezes sometimes. She is eating great and doesn't have any milky white discharge coming from her eyes anymore. Dr. Emerson has her scheduled to come back in January to remove her other odontoma that is on the remaining upper incisor. Please continue ie to keep Miracle in your thoughts and prayers. She means so much to me.
