Default Does this squirrel need help?

    Hello,
I'm new and no absolutely nothing about squirrels. We have a young little squirrel (when I say "we have" I mean it's outside in the yard, wild - not a "pet"). It has some problem around its nose/mouth as you can see, and we don't know if it's an injury or an illness or what. It seems to act ok-ish. How can we tell if we need to bring it to a rehabber or if it should be left alone? We appreciate any guidance.

Oh dear, gosh, that could be a wasp bite, burn, dental issue or a deformatie of some sort. Leave some water out for it. Preferably cold water. I am certain someone here will know what it is. If you have a local rehabber send them a picture too. Will be curious to know what you find out.

Thank you so much! I know, it's not a great photo and it could be anything. It's a young squirrel, the tail isn't fluffy. We'll put some cold water out. Can you tell if his teeth are missing, or is it normal not to see them with the mouth open a little bit?

Exclamation Re: Does this squirrel need help?

Yes it needs help and is too young to be on its own...please bring it indoors. It is likely not able to lap water at this age.

He looks like he has fallen from the nest... they almost always land on their heads since at this age their head is so relatively large. And get bloodied noses. If mom has not come and gotten him (he is too young to be away from the nesT0 something likely happen to her and this one is out searching for help.

If you want help finding a rehabber to take them please tell us what part of FL you are in.
