Default Gabapentin as a sedative, dosage

795g fox squirrel with a wound on her flank.

    Original thread is here: https://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/...cw-wound-pics)

Briefly: because of all the movement right there the wound keeps getting pulled open. I have gabapentin left over from another squirrel and have mixed a 100mg capsule into 1ml of liquid (water and maple syrup).

Is it... appropriate, I suppose, to give this to her for the purpose of sedation, in this situation? I don't want to medicate unnecessarily, but I think it would be good for her to be sleeping more and moving less right now.
If so I need the dosage for her.

    Sedative dose starts at 20mg/kg.
I use it A LOT for squirrels.

Thank you! That's the info I needed, and i can calculate from there.

What I was able to find for rats had the recommended dosage at 30mg/kg, so that is what I used today. It's been trial and error figuring out how to get her to eat all of it, so she didn't get the full dose either time.
I will adjust to 20mg/kg (and hopefully get her to take all of it)

Can you be more specific? MG per gram of weight?
