Hello all, I have A LOT of wilds who visit my yard daily and will only eat nuts. I’ve put out HHB, coconut and avocado and they don’t touch them, the birds wind up eating them. I was wondering if I buy the powdered vitamins from Henry’s and somehow get some on the nuts, if that is okay? I can’t imagine what else they’re eating other than nuts. Thanks.

You could take shelled almonds/pecans/walnuts put in ziplock bag with some calcium powder (I get from Henry's healthy pets) shake the bag and that will give them some calcium 👍

Isn't it funny how animals that are working so hard to survive can get so spoiled? One would think they'd be all over the HHB's just because it's an easy meal and probably goes a looong way toward giving them what they need for the day, hence less work foraging and a bit less energy spent.


Another easy source of calcium could be one of those hollow short beef bones people get for their dogs to put peanut butter or whatever inside. I wire one of those to a tree and they gnaw on it as needed.

Thank you both for the good ideas. They are so spoiled. Some don’t even wait for me to go out, they come to my second floor window for their treats. The reason for my concern is I’ve noticed their mating behaviors really ramping up. I have a lot of females who I think will be having babies and wanted them to eat more nutritious food.

Yes what Chirps said, I have those bones all over my yard and I hear them chew chewing , helps their teeth and gives them calcium.
