Not an infection , but Opal was shot (I think a pellet gun) and her lower jaw was completely compromised and could not support her lower teeth. I took Opal to Dr E and she fixed this girl up, though without lower teeth she was never able to be re-released.

I've never heard of this and wondered what the quality of life would be if they survive the surgery.
This was from infected tooth that went undetected as squirrels hide symptoms so well 😕
The bone is mushy and antibiotics are not curing the infection so this would be the only possible cure.

My dog just had a tumor removed from his gum line. The vet also had to remove some of his jaw bone because it was mushy. She suspects the tumor is cancerous but won’t know until the biopsy comes back. If so, then her recommendation was removing part of the jaw. She said that dogs do quite well with this surgery.eek
