Exclamation My baby squirrel has knobs like pustule

Please help me. My baby squirrel has knobs like pustule. It's been one week since I have him. He already has these knobs like pustule when I received him. At first I though it was due to insects bite like red ants. But these knobs still don't disappear so I am starting to worry. Other than these knobs, he's healthy and always eager to eat. He just open his eyes yesterday.

I'll let the experts comment, but maybe you can try diluted betadine? It needs to be diluted. Add some water to the Betadine till it looks like the color of weak tea. It shouldn't burn and you shouldn't need to rinse.

You can apply it genty with a q-tip or some cotton. I'd do that a few times a day to see if it helps.

And I think this is a little girl. Make sure she is warm after applying betadine (as she would get wet/soaked).

I agree wih Buddy --- this looks like pyoderma, a staph-like infection. Easy to cure with Betadine or even an anti-bacterial soap. Yes, you have a little girl squirrel there.

Betadyne (10% povidone iodine) available in bottles in the wound care aisle of any drug or even grocery store. Dilute 20-25 drops in 1/4 cup water. Dab wounds and allow to air dry. Keep baby warm of course! I usually heat the betadyne/water solution to body temp before using.

A female squirrel's vagina also has a slight "protrusion" that is located between her legs.
A male's penis is located up higher around waist area or where one would think belly button area.
Do you still think you have a male??

Can I ask one more question? I have LED light (20W) and I want to use it as a heat lamp for him. Is that OK for him? How far should I place it from him. Please see attach photo of LED lamp. Thank you very much.Name: 20210505_164309.jpg

Nope. Read this - honest. It is 6 pages and is the definitive guide to raising a baby squirrel successfully. It was gleaned from years of info on here and with the input of people who have collectively raised hundreds of babies. https://www.henryspets.com/1-baby-squirrel-care-guide/

You need a heating pad without the auto-cut off. It should be kept under the container the baby is in so the warmth is radiating up.

The problem with heat lamps is an inability to really control the temp. It is heating the air in the container but not really warming the bedding the baby is in. Plus it is a lamp! Babies grow up in a hole in the side of a tree or a deep nest made of twigs and leaves. In both case they are in a small, dark, warm (other baby bodies plus mom). Having a light shining down is very unnatural for them.

The good news is that the "no auto cutoff" pads are the least expensive. The place I linked to sells them, as do many places locally.

I think you would see a penis for a boy squirrel around here.
