Default Squirrel with abscess on left upper mouth

I have a young squirrel in my care that has an abscess on the left side of the mouth where the whiskers are at. No teeth issues. It is red and swollen.
Any suggestions as I have no access to vet. I do have antibiotics but need to known any suggestions to relieve the swelling.
Squirrel is still eating good and drinking good.

    Can you post a picture?

Abscesses will usually burst on their own, but it may take some time. They can be lanced and drained, too. They really won’t heal until all that puss is out. The puss is like cottage cheese and very thick. Antibiotics alone doesn’t usually rectify the problem until it’s drained.

There is a vet that will see squirrels in North Carolina. Avian and Exotic Animal Care, Dr. Dan Johnson, Raleigh, NC 919-844-9166.

When you are composing a post in this thread in the upper row of icons you will see a paper clip. You will then need to choose the file, clicking on the file in the directory it is stored. There are then one or two more steps.
