    Question Coconut?

I always buy coconuts, gut them give some of the meat to my kids, but I really get them for the shell. All mine love chewing on them, sometimes I thread fleece through the hole I make hang them for toys.
I just went to open one and has a sticker saying..."DO NOT DRINK DIRECTLY FROM THE NUT, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC "
I've never seen this. Could they be spraying the coconut with a pesticide? In that case I don't want my kids chewing on them even if I wash them 🤨

If a farmer can make more money, create more first grade coconuts by spraying, they will.

There may be some boring insect that they are spraying for.

In the fruit business, spraying the crop is standard practice. There is a spraying schedule. Spraying occurs throughout the growing season.

That sounds like legal CYA, so I think you should assume that there may be some toxic residual on the shell.

It has nothing to do with spraying, it's the age of the coconut...

Green coconuts are the young, white coconuts are the medium young fruit of the coconut palm.
Drinking from the shells /husks of both are safe.
Brown coconuts are the older ones which are deemed not safe to drink from due to the coconut's
short life span which should not come into contact with oxygen for too long due to fermentation.
This fermentation will cause the coconut and water to taste sour and smell. It will also attract
bacteria and could cause complications after digested.

That would explain why none of the coconuts I’ve gotten have a similar warning sticker. I get white coconuts from a neighborhood Caribbean market.
