    Default Aspirated Flyer (on Baytril)

I need help with a 25 gram flyer who has aspirated. I ordered some Enrofloxacin 10% Liquid off a bird website bc I was told itís the same as Baytril. How do I administer this with a proper dose? She is clicking and lost her appetite. Please help! I know how urgent this is and I canít get her to a vet until 9:00 tomorrow, that is the only vet near me willing to see her but the earliest is tomorrow at 9:00. I donít want her to die. Any and all help is appreciated

    Exclamation Aspirated Flyer on Baytril

I have a 26 gram flyer that is now refusing to eat and is breathing pretty fast. I have been giving .1 ml of Baytril a day for 3 days now. She just doesnít seem to be doing much better. I have also been giving breathing treatment with the nebulizer. Is there anything else I can do for her? Iím so worried about her.

I have not known baytril not to work for aspiration pneumonia, after 3 days you should have seen improvement.
You say she aspirated, can you explain this and was there any clicking to indicate pneumonia.
She's not eating, could she be dehydrated?

You might try some hydration fluid like stepnstone mentioned. It canít hurt. They usually like the homemade recipe better than Pedialyte. I have found that sometimes they will take the hydration fluid when they wonít take formula.

    Homemade Rehydration fluid:
    1 cup warm water
1 tablespoon honey, molasses, syrup, or sugar
    1 pinch salt

What is the concentration of the Baytril? Is it the oral type? 0.1ml seems like a lot for a 26g flyer unless itís pretty dilute.

Jburgess, do you have any pain medications we can add to her treatment?
Is it possible the nebulizing is causing her to stress?

Since the Baytril isn't working well, can you get your hands on any of the following: Baytril (animal)/Cipro (human), Clavamox (animal)/Augmentin (human) are drugs that are used frequently for upper respiratory infections?

The rapid breathing and lack of appetite are consistent with aspiration pneumonia.

Also, keep her warm and upright which facilitates oxygen exchange in the event of fluid in the lungs. Tucking her between layers of clothing would be a good way to achieve this. Keeping her warm help her focus her body's resources on combating the pneumonia.

Not true, there can be many reasons for rapid breathing and lack of appetite.
What is normally "consistent" with aspiration pneumonia is a clicking sound with each breath on inhale and exhale.
