    Unhappy Sad 3months squirrel

Hi, I’m new to this, but I have a squirrel that’s about 3 months and he’s sad. Usually he’ll leave for 2 days and come back slightly sad and then returns back to normal in a day. But this time he came back home really depressed. Could it be because of the winter and hibernation time? Pls help

What type of squirrel is he? Tree squirrels don't hibernate.

Hi! What do you mean by "depressed"? Low energy? Not bouncy? When you say "comes back home" did you release him? How long ago? Has he been staying around and recently started staying away? What kind of squirrel is it?

Hi, he’s an eastern grey squirrel and he has very low energy, he’s usually more energetic and jumping on me and my family but he now sticks more to laying down or sitting hunched over (more than normal).

When I say he comes back home, it’s more of if he wants to go outside then we’ll let him and he usually hangs around on a tree or goes away for 2 days. He comes back home when it’s night time and when he sees us outside. Usually he comes home tired and wanting to be pet a lot, and then he’s back to his energetic self the next day. But this time he came home really low energy, not jumpy at all, and a decrease in appetite.

Sitting "hunched over" can be a red flag, a picture could be helpful to assess his condition.

Also the last time he came home he had a rash on by his tummy. And he’s lost a bit of weight.

Your little guy could have something going on with him that is making him not feel good. Can you handle him with a blanket wrapped around him? I’m wondering if his teeth are ok....not too long or broken or something? Depressed is not normal.

The teeth look ok to me. Is it possible for you to keep him in for a few days so you can observe him?

    How much does he weigh?

What was his typical diet when he was in your care?

At this time of year I do think that they slow down, to reduce their calorie burn so as to be sure that the food that they have stashed away will last through the winter.

The posture is still a red flag to me, I agree with Mel, keep him in to observe.

Is that just the curled up fingers of the left hand?

I agree with taking the cautious approach, something may be off.

He’s been sleeping mostly, he keeps wanting to sleep on my hands and not in his bed. He hasn’t eaten yet either, I’ve offered food and he doesn’t want to take it and only goes for water.

Have you been hydrating him? Offer water; maybe with a little bit honey or fruit juice mixed with it? If you still have formula, he might take that.

I agree, hydration is key and he's also going to need nutrients.
Formula would be good, yogurt w/ probiotics could help with his
stomach if that's an issue, ensure would also be good for protein.
