I live in Jasper, Ga and looking for a Vet reference. Do you have any
contacts who could steer me in the right direction? I have had this
baby since she was a week old (pink and small) and past few days (week 5) she has been
showing white pasty poop and now concerned as she lost weight and
seems underweight for her age 56grams.
I have past experience with a baby squirrel and raised her under a
rehabber's supervision, however, there were never any signs of
troubles.
I am not sure if I am feeding too much or if she has a gut bug.
Please help me find someone close to help give proper treatment asap
Ps. I have been changing out formula and ordered the fox valley due to arrive.
meanwhile she is being fed canned goats milk with organic vanilla
yogurt and heavy whipping cream. Wonder if I should flush out her system with just water for 12 hours but again, concerned about her lack of weight.
Thank you!
Are you mixing the goat milk formula as recommended?
3 parts goat’s milk
1 part heavy whipping cream*
1 part vanilla yogurt
How much, how often are you feeding?
You mention you "have been changing out formula." what all formula's has she been on?
The FV is a perfect choice, I hope you ordered the 20/50. When switching formula's one needs to transition over to a
new formula so as not to cause digestive issues. Eyes open babies should also be introduced to a good quality rodent
block as their first solid food.
Assuming this is a grey squirrel? Her weight is on the high end for a 4 week old. ~ Could she be dehydrated?
Pinch test; Pull the skin up between the shoulders and determine how slowly it goes down when let go. A properly
hydrated baby will snap back in place. A dehydrated baby can not properly process what it is being fed.
I would recommend hydrating for a feeding (or two) and then offer hydration in between regular formula feedings.
