So, I have raised 2 baby squirrels successfully thanks to the help of members here! They are fiesty, wild, and vocal about things they do and do not like. The female is braver than the male in most cases, and the squirrels are provided Squirrel Cubes (HENRYS) - 2 a day per squirrel, and Rodent Block as free feed as well as a healthy supply of fresh greens and vegetables.
All that being said, We moved to a new home and decided to transition them to the shed so they can get used to being outside. We have a water bottle on a tree and put food out in their cage that they can get in and out from daily. HOWEVER, we have been keeping the shed shut to help keep the environment as warm as possible. Their nest is in the shed and since we just moved they are kinda freaked out about the new place and new sounds.
I went in today to put some more food in the cage since they cleaned through the food I had put in there this morning and one of my squirrels must have gotten startled and flew past me and out of the shed before I was able to shut the door.
I am worried that my squirrel (chips) will get lost, freeze, or be unable to find her way back to the nest where her brother is. I don't want either of them to freeze and die and as of right now it's 27 degrees F and is going to drop to 23 degrees as the night goes on.
Am I over worrying?
Will she be able to find her way back to the nest?
Is she going to freeze and die?
Should I move Guac (the squirrel in the nest) inside again?
