I had a wild show up for treats about 5 days ago that was hurt. At first I thought it may be head trauma etc. because she kept leaning to the right when she walked. And she let me get pretty close to her.
Then I noticed that she couldn't use her right hand and when she tried to put weight on her right back leg she would start tipping over. So now it appears to be injury on right front and back feet, legs, etc. To sit up to eat she balances on her left back leg. She could handle her food ok but had limited use of her front hand for locomotion.
She has a good appetite.
I was going to try to catch her and keep her in release cage for her safety and monitoring. Then she disappeared. It was almost dark, very cold and started raining hard. I feared she couldn't get back to her nest wherever it was and being soaked would be at risk for exposure. I searched for her until it was too dark to see. She didn't show up the next two or three days so I feared the worst.
Then just like that she showed today. I watched her to find where she lives and turns out she is one of three 6 mth old juvies that live in a nest box about 40 feet from Coco. There was 4 but one just disappeared early on. And their mom has just died from a fall injury I think.
Today she looked a little better. She appeared to be using the front foot a little better but was sorta using then dragging the back foot, leg. She can climb being a bit slower and clumsier than normal. Still has a good appetite. I decided to not catch her since she stays close to her tree and needs the warmth and comfort from her siblings.
Anyone care to offer a guess on what may have caused her injuries and what actions if any I should take?
Does this resemble MBD?
I do feed them nuts almost every evening along with Katee rodent block, boo balls, blue berries, avacado, sweet potato, raw coconut. etc.
