Small wound on outdoor backyard squirrel

Hi Everyone,

This morning I looked out and saw this little guy on my tree shelf with a wound on his side. He looks fine and was playing on the shelf for several minutes before I took pictures. Rubbing his face, scratching, and climbing on the tree trunk. I snapped a few pics of the wound that was obvious from the window.

It looks likes it is on the surface and not a puncture wound, does anyone agree?

He ran down the tree and hopped off through the pine trees when I went out to stock the feeding station. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do for him as I have to many squirrels that come in and out of my yard and I don't have contact with them in any way.

I'm hoping he heals up ok. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

It was probably an abscess that opened. It doesn’t look infected and looks like it’s healing well. The best thing to do in this situation is provide nutritious food, which it sounds like you’re already doing.
