Thanks I got a little worried. I figured since he's only 9 weeks he might choke on the paper towels but he absolutely went nuts like it was a new toy.

So we can give them paper towels and maybe the paper towel rolls to play with? We don't need to worry about them? I'll be they would love it as bedding.

I starting giving Squirt toilet paper rolls last week and he loves them I just wasn't sure about the actual toilet paper or paper towels because I saw him eating it today and thought he might choke on the paper. He always tries to eat the paper on my desk too but I take it away

My Squirt seems to be getting bored of the stuff in his cage already. He's got a branch, a femur bone and some fleece that hangs from the top of the cage. Any other suggestions for some new toys?

Scout loves old, clean socks. He likes to pull them around his cage to make a nest in the corner or hide his food in them.

I believe you are supposed to cut the paper roll cardboard so they don't get their head stuck inside.

A hanging paper towel roll is a fun toy to add. No need to cut the paper towel roll that I have ever seen either.

Thanks everyone. I always cut the paper roll right down the middle so he doesnt get stuck just in case. Maybe i will try to hang it from the top of the cage, that sounds interesting. Ok so i am assuming it is ok to give him the actual paper from the rolls right???

If he can have nuts as a treat, I like to take tp rolls, put a few nuts inside, and I wrap it in plain white tissue paper, so it makes noise when you shake it. They get to rip it out, eat the nuts and then play with the paper or make a nest with it! Keeps them busy for a little while.

Hi pappy. im not sure if i can give him nuts yet. He is 9weeks and is just starting to eat his hhb's and is only on formula & hhb's at the moment. I have not introduced any other food yet. That nut in the tp roll does sound like fun for him though.

I strongly disagree. I stuffed an empty toilet paper roll in my coat pocket. Helen figured I had concealed a treat. She dove into my pocket, simultaneously diving through the roll with her head emerging from the other end. She straight-jacketed herself. She promptly freaked out and pitched out of the pocket stuffed in the tube fell to the kitchen floor. Given the binding of her limbs the fall could have killed her or done serious injury if she hit head first. All of this occurred in less than two seconds and I had no chance to catch her.

I picked her up and tore the roll in half, freeing her.

She assumed I had done this to her and began predator warnings then went completely silent unmoving, concealed out of reach for several hours. I horrified and terrified.

Without the binding such a fall is inconsequential because they rotate themselves in the air so as to land on their feet absorbing the force.

Keep tearing the rolls in half, see my story elsewhere in this post.
