squirrel's nest in old flicker house and tree being cut down

Good morning!

I have a dead tree in my back yard and it is being cut down today. This morning, while looking into my backyard, I saw a squirrel sticking it's head out of an old flicker house on the tree. I waited to see if the squirrel would come out and it finally did but just sat on top the of the old flicker house. I went outside to "chat" with the squirrel and it went back inside of the flicker house. I would think that it is a she and she has babies. The house can be easily be removed but I don't want the babies (if there are some) to be abandoned. This nest is only about 6 feet off of the ground and the tree does not have any foliage on it so I was surprised about the nest. I can move it about 12 feet away to another tree.

Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

I would move it. She will not abandon her babies. When things are quiet she will go to her babies.

I hope they are careful dropping the tree. It would be terrible to injure/kill the babies.
