    Question Discharge from lady parts

Hi all! I'm wondering if anyone has experience with a white-ish, thick-ish discharge coming from, well, lady squirrel parts. My Chester is 9 years old and has been acting normal, eating normal, drinking normal, pooping and peeing normal, etc. But I noticed a discharge coming from her lady part...i found it on the couch first and couldn't figure out what it was or where it came from but then saw that it is in fact coming out of her. Any ideas? Thank you!

That discharge is from vaginitis; our vet told me about this 20 years ago when I saw this same discharge occur in our female squirrel. Initially it is more liquid like, so that using a dampen cue-tip works well to remove it; yet as the heat begins to wane it then dries up, which is where it can be a problem as this can clog the orifice. When this happens gently use a damp cloth with slightly warm water to soften it, and if need be, using gentle pressure from above the orifice, towards the opening, expel it to clear the opening.

Because bacteria can ascend into the uterus, to support your female not just during her heats, but continually, including a source of 'Synbiotics' (probiotics with prebiotic) will support combating bad bacteria.

Kidney function is key to supporting longevity; for the longer they last the potential for a longer and healthier lifetime is increased. As rodents age, their ability to absorb calcium and other key nutrients progressively lowers over time. Likewise, their kidney function lowers over time that results in their kidneys retaining more and more phosphorus. Together this effectually lowers the (Calcium to Phosphorus of the diet, which hastens the drop in function of kidneys. To compensate for this issue, lowering phosphorus and maintaining calcium over the lifetime can lend significant support to the kidneys viability.

To do this, you would begin to lower the phosphorus in the diet at age 4 to 5, then after a few more years lower still. To facilitate this if you feed 2 HHB diet blocks daily, lowering them to 1 1/2 blocks daily, lowers the phosphorus in the diet. Then to compensate for the lowering of the calcium, add Calcium citrate in the same elemental amount the diet was lowered in to support healthier (Ca:P) ratio for older tree squirrels, for this is what lends support to extending the function of older kidneys. Why Calcium citrate, is because research in rats has found this form of calcium improves the function of the kidneys.

Calcium citrate powder from NOW Brand label 600 mg. available on Amazon.com

For example, if you feed HHB block, adding a total of (1/8 Tsp.+ 1/32 Tsp. 1/64 Tsp.) of the source from NOW Calcium citrate powder label (600 mg = 1/2 Tsp.). The total amount of Calcium citrate daily, then split between two meals, AM and PM respectively, which equals
    (1/16 Tsp. + 1/64 Tsp. + 1/128 Tsp. = to half of (1/64 Tsp.).

In addition, after these specific organic nutraceutical sources were included in the diet of an older female E. Gray squirrel with this same condition, the vaginitis was resolved. These sources also act prophylactically to help prevent infections and improve organ health and circulation.

Pycnogenol (PYC) has even been found to reach to the bone marrow. An extract from the cambium layer of the bark of the Maritime Pine, PYC extract is a naturally high source of polyphenols, which has been found in rats to improve kidney function, protect the liver from damage due to toxins, and increase bone density. Pycnogenol has also been found to be analgesic, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti inflammatory, analgesic, and improves bone density in rats. PYC, unlike NSAIDS, hasn't been found to promote serious negative side effect in rats, being well tolerated without toxicity at higher dosages for rats. Yet, it doesn't take a higher dose for most conditions to be improved; the average clinical dose varies from as low as 3 mg. up 10 mg. In another older female gray squirrel these same sources helped to normalize high blood sugar, and support with a balanced diet healthy mean urine pH. that inhibits the formation of urinary tract calculi (stones). It has also been found to increase energy level in tree squirrels.

including 1/8th portion of the powdered extract of one 30 mg. capsule daily from Healthy Origins added to a wet food like baked squash, or low fat organic plain yogurt. Using a powdered extract not a liquid that is more concentrated, include an eight of a capsule powder daily.

By adding these same healthy sources to a wet food like Low fat organic plain yogurt with 1/4 Tsp. of organic naturally sweetened with no sugars or artificial sugars added, and a little bit of organic nut ground up added to give it scent and taste appeal. Best to stick to the brands sources noted here as some aren't food grade.
