Default Found injured squirrel: advice for rehab in So Cal

    Hello,

I am new to the forum,

Hoping I can get some solid advice on best way to proceed to get medical attention
for an injured sweet squirrel with a broken limb (I think) -

I found her late last night trying to drag herself on the sidewalk. A nasty crow was just about to grab her tail in its beak -
I placed her in a box with a blanket and kept her overnight in a warm dark bathroom. I would like to get her some help.

    - I've called Wildlife Animal rescue and AMC SoCal and ConejoValley vet, but not getting very far - I live in Venice CA 90291. If anyone has an active list of rehabbers they could share for the area, I would much appreciate.

-I haven't fed or given her water -- Is this this the right thing to do? Can a squirrel with a broken leg be rehabbed?

There is an excellent rehab center not far from you. According to Google, you are about 20 miles from Malibu.

This a link to Coast and Canyon in Malibu. Everything we have heard about them is good.

Thanks for caring for this baby.

If it is just a broken leg, yes it could heal.

If you’re not able to get help soon this is a link for baby squirrel care. On the second page is a homemade hydration fluid that you can make. You would need a syringe. It would be fed warm. The baby would also need to be warm.

Thank you so much for the prompt replies! It's a tough time for everyone. Coast and Canyon is at capacity.

I've reached out to CA Wildlife Rescue, Canejo Valley Vet and SquirrelMenders. Fingers crossed!
