    Default Tramadol

Does anyone know if Tramadol usually makes squirrels sleepy? I know it usually makes humans drowsy. I have my squirrel who had the amputation on it & she’s not really staying awake this afternoon. I did give it to her late today (around lunch) so I’m hoping it just hasn’t worn off yet.

Yes, it can make them drowsy. How long ago did you give it?

Edit... I see it now. Lunch. It should have worn off by now. Does she feel fevered? This is the one that didn’t get antibiotics, right?

Not sure, she’s always warm to me. I started her on augmentin the day after her surgery when I got the Tramadol. Should I try giving her water? She woke up to eat a piece of banana & sweet potato & take her probiotic then went right back to sleep.

I’m actually starting to think her stomach may hurt. She looks like she’s straining to poop

I just looked it up. Tramadol can cause stomach upset so you might want to start backing down tomorrow.

You could offer her some hydration fluid. They usually won’t drink water from a syringe but they seem to like the homemade hydration.
I would try it. Hydration is so important.

Homemade Rehydration fluid • ¼ teaspoon salt • 1 ½ tablespoons sugar, molasses, or apple juice • 2 cups warm water

Tramadol can slow bowels. Sweet potato and banana can also be binding. Give extra hydration. I give water with molasses to combat constipation.

Augmentin is hard on the stomach too so I think hers is just messed up from being on both. & thank you for that info, now I know going forward. I’ll start weaning her off the tram & make sure she stays hydrated

Tramadol is a good pain med. Just remember it can slow bowels and feed water filled veggies to help move things along.

Has your little one been on the Tramadol since the 20th?
If so, how many times daily are you giving it?
Only give this when absolutely necessary.
Like I wrote, keep her well hydrated when on any meds.
Are you giving her a probiotic like I suggested?

Yes she’s been on it since the 20th, I was giving it to her early in the morning & later at night. And yes I am giving the probiotic also

Any ideas on enticing her to drink/ take fluids? She’s reluctant to take anything from a syringe since I have to force her to take her ABs from one. Going get a watermelon in a little bit to see if she’ll at least want that.

I do rehab too (which is how I ended up with her) so I would sub-Q if this was a rehab patient but I’m trying to avoid it unless I absolutely have to with her.

Thank you all for the suggestions, I am so grateful for this group of people!

Watermelon is good. Also, fruity flavored baby foods have a fair amount of moisture in them. You can get a 6-pac of little baby food jars with different flavors in order to find out of she really likes one of the flavors.
