    Hi all,

I have an orphaned baby eastern grey squirrel that’s under a week old. I’m afraid it has aspiration pneumonia so hoping for help with dosage of Clavamox 125 mg sleeves. He weighs 20 grams. Please help! Name: 865612E5-5B67-4045-AE67-1AAEE4933E0C.jpg

I see in the background of one of the pics a can of Esbilac. Is that what you are feeding this little one? If so, in light of the problems surrounding the Esbilac issue last year, I believe the homemade goats milk+ formula is recommended until about 3-4 weeks old and then switching to Fox Valley 20/50.

Please admin correct me if I’m wrong on what the current recommendation is for pinkies.

I'm in conversation with finder. She had to go somewhere for a while and will get back to me. I am suggesting a formula change.

Here's an excellent link on how to care for a baby squirrel.
It's 6 concise pages long with the next button in the top right corner.

A neighbor found him and his brother after their nest had fallen apart and fell roughly 75’. They left them for approximately 4 hours in hopes that the momma squirrel would retrieve them. She never returned and it started to storm. The brother had a lot of bleeding around his head and sadly didn’t live very long. The neighbor tried to feed them almond milk and nuts 😖 and gave them a bath. She brought them to me and I immediately put them into an incubator to bring their body temps up. I rehydrated for a day and then introduced the formula which the surviving baby took to very enthusiastically. I’ve been feeding round the clock every 3 hours. I made the mistake of asking someone else to take over an early morning feeding so I could catch up on some sleep. I think he was fed too quickly because as the day went on, he lost interest in eating and the clicking sound began. I administered one dose of the Clavamox and I’m taking the best care of him that I can. I’ve contacted several rehabbers since they came into my care on Wednesday but none accept pinkies.

He is still eliminating well which I take is a good sign. I’m only getting maybe .15 ml of formula into him per feeding since yesterday. I’ll try the goats milk formula!

Probably .7 ml average per feeding. He was 17 grams when I brought him in. Mind you, this is a digital kitchen scale that I’m using and I constantly question its accuracy.

Not one so young as this little guy. I made the goats milk formula recipe that you shared with me and he seems to be doing a little better already!

Jumping in here with a few hints for the new pinky mamma:

*make sure formula is VERY warm....100-103 degrees like mamma squirrel's body. Pinkies don't relate to cool formula, they don't even realize it's food.
*go as slowly as you can.....realllllly slow. Speed is the enemy when feeding pinkies, and most people do exactly that, feed too fast in the beginning.\
*hydration: if the baby starts looking thinner, or 'flat', offer homemade hydration or Pedialyte -- warmed, of course -- IN BETWEEN feedings until the baby plumps up again.
    * Take a moment to hold the pinky after feeding, up to your throat or side of face and hummmmm......this feels like his real mamma and will relax him.
Good luck! We're here for you with any and all questions!
