We have a member who’s a vet in Mississippi. I’ll see if she knows of anyone in your region.

Edit: relayed the question to the Mississippi vet.

May I ask what is wrong that you need a vet? If a vet isn’t forthcoming maybe we can help.

I have a squirrel who was born with no front arms & has a sore on one of the nubs that I was trying to deal with myself but at this point I think the bone is starting to stick out and I need a vet to look at her

I have been keeping it wrapped with vetericyn sprayed gauze then breathable stretchy bandage on top so she doesn’t irritate it & rub it on everything. I started a course of antibiotics 1 wk ago because it started getting red
I found a vet to look at her but I’m worried her initial thought will be to put her down. She is so full of life & you can’t even tell she has a wound. She constantly wants to play & I can’t imagine having to put her down so I’m beyond nervous. This has been stressing me out more than anyone can imagine

    Poor baby!

Sometimes life just doesn't seem fair!

Thank you so much for caring for her!

Prayers sent for a long, happy life for her.

    Does she have a name?

I am so angry with the laws & frustrated that I can’t get medical care for her. It truly breaks my heart for her. Her name is Roo

That's north eastern MS. that this squirrel friendly Vet is located. If you would like to have little Roo seen by them, just say the word I will get that contact info out to you.

You should view this; it's the story of a squirrel that lost both its front arms in a trap. The rescuer made her a wheelie device so she could walk around; now can she run!

This always brings a happy tear to my eye.

I saw that! Pretty amazing. Mine gets around better than I would’ve imagined, she’s had no problems adapting
The MS vet, would there be any questioning as to her status and the fact that we’re coming from an illegal state?

If it’s the MS vet I think it is, no there would be no questions.

DF could you please send the vet contact info to me in a pm so I can verify it’s who I think it is.

I can’t tell from the pix. Does she have little “armlets”? I have paralyzed squirrels. I make “skutes” for them to keep drag sores under control. For forelimbs I don’t see a skute working but a vest might. Does she have feeling in her forelimbs? I sure would love to see her with a set of wheels. That would protect her fragile skin. I’m so glad you have a vet. More pictures pleeeeeeeze!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought about the wheels too at first but once she started moving around I didn’t think she’d need anything, she can get around with no problems. I think she just bumped it the wrong way and it’s been a battle ever since. She does have a nub for one arm and an actual arm on the bad side but it’s useless, it just stays against her body.

Update: vet agreed to operate & thinks it'll be simple to fix. BUT I know squirrels don't do well under anesthesia so I'm praying that it goes smoothly & she can recover quickly.

I’m so glad you’ve been in contact with the vet. I’m certain that you guys will be able to get the sore healed and under control so Roo can be a happy little girl again. I think with the two of you brainstorming you might just be able to come up with something that might help protect Roo’s skin while healing and afterwards. Roo
