    Exclamation Help

My squirrel chewed on a pill I found on the ground, it's an Ambien. Not sure how much she ate but half is missing so upwards of 5mg.

    Default Re: Help

Of course she will be drowsy and sleep but the lethal dose is very high.
The LD50 for Ambien is 695-1030 mg/kg for rats.
That means it would take between 695-1030 mg/kg to kill 50% of a population.
Another way of looking at that is 50% will survive a dose over 695 mg/kg.
That is a very high dose is I suspect a dose of 5mg should not be fatal.

I would hydrate or give a juicy fruit like grape or watermelon to help flush it out.
I would also periodically wake her so that she doesn’t slip too deeply into sleep.
Keep rousing her and hydrate and we will pray that she’s OK.
Some will use activated charcoal to absorb the drug but I doubt you have any.
